Yesterday was the last day of my placement at a local design agency in Newcastle, Cravens. Having done work for a number of different clients including the World Rowing Championships, Virgin Money and 32Red Online Casino I was slightly nervous to see what it was like to be in an actual agency rather than being in the studio at college, that and a mixture of excitement to get some work done and see what they had in store for me.
The two weeks absolutely flew by and was a lot more layed back than I thought it would be, that being said there was a lot of work being done and I was surprised on just how many projects were going on at once, everyone having different jobs to do and jumping from one project to another; a big difference from college where we have up to six weeks to do a single project. The placement also gave me the chance to do some work for an actual client and to my surprise on of my branding concepts for this client got chosen, my first payed piece of work!
Getting this placement definitely inspired me to get some more design work done at college, now I know what speed the industry works at and how you need to be flexible with your time I think I could get quite the amount of work done in the next unit that is going to start soon, which is portfolio building. The guys at Cravens were great to be around and definitely a talented bunch of people, I would definitely say dont hesitate to try and get a placement there if you have a portfolio!
